Chelsea Complete Cole Palmer Signing from Manchester City
Initial £40 Million Fee Agreed
Palmer Cites New Project as Motivation for Move
Chelsea have announced the completion of a deal to sign Manchester City winger Cole Palmer on Transfer Deadline Day. The Blues have agreed an initial fee of £40 million for the England Under-21 international, which could potentially rise to £45 million with add-ons.
Palmer has thanked Manchester City for his time at the club, but expressed excitement about the new challenge at Chelsea. "I want to thank everyone at Manchester City for the incredible support and guidance I've received during my time here," he said. "However, I feel this move to Chelsea presents a fresh opportunity for me to develop and grow as a player."
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has accepted responsibility for Palmer's departure, stating that he was unable to guarantee the young forward regular playing time. "Cole is an exceptional talent, and I have no doubt he will be a success at Chelsea," Guardiola said. "We wish him all the best in his future endeavors."
The addition of Palmer bolsters Chelsea's attacking options, and provides competition for the likes of Mason Mount and Hakim Ziyech. Palmer has impressed for Manchester City in recent seasons, scoring 4 goals and providing 5 assists in all competitions last term.
Chelsea are reportedly close to finalizing another deal with Manchester City for the signing of forward Liam Delap. The 19-year-old is expected to cost a fee of around £25 million.
