AAP upset over Kejriwal's 'honest' remarks: MLA quits, more to follow

New Delhi, March 5: Arvind Kejriwal's recent comments that only those who consider him honest should vote for him have not gone down well with a section of AAP leaders.

In a setback to the party, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislator Kapil Mishra quit the party on Monday, saying he was "deeply hurt" by Kejriwal's remarks. Mishra, who was a minister in the Kejriwal government, said he would not contest the upcoming assembly elections in Delhi on an AAP ticket.

Mishra's resignation came a day after Kejriwal, at a rally in Delhi, said: "If you think Arvind Kejriwal is honest, then vote for him. If you have any doubts, don't vote for him."

This statement didn't go down well with Mishra, who tweeted on Monday: "I am deeply hurt by the statement of Arvind Kejriwal that only those who consider him honest should vote for him. I have decided to quit AAP and will not contest the upcoming elections on an AAP ticket."

Mishra, who was considered close to Kejriwal, is not the only leader who is upset with the AAP chief's remarks. Sources say that several other AAP leaders are also planning to quit the party.

If these leaders do quit, it will be a major setback for AAP, which is already facing an uphill task in the upcoming assembly elections. The party is facing a challenge from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is the ruling party at the Centre, and the Congress, which is the main opposition party in Delhi.

It remains to be seen how AAP will deal with this crisis and whether Kejriwal's remarks will have any impact on the party's performance in the upcoming elections.
